My mission as painting coach is to help my students gain new technical skills, overcome the fears and obstacles we face as painters, find their own painting voice, or expand their expressive repertoire. These sessions can also be done virtually if you are traveling, using the communication tools with which you are most familiar.
Summary: I coach my students by listening carefully, asking good questions, and discussing at student work in a supportive manner. If the student requests it, I can assign individualized exercises or set up an instructional session with me painting alongside or assisting the student in the completion of a project.
Format: The session usually begins with a short check-in which is followed by a discussion of work the student has done and the way in which this work reflects the student’s own goals.
Cancellations: If you cancel the booking you will be entitled to a refund of half of the session fee. This fee will be refunded if you reschedule your session before the end of the month.
Rescheduling: Students receive a full refund if able to reschedule another date before the end of the month. The cancellation fee will be refunded at the rescheduled meeting.
You’ve done the workshops, bought the books and seen the demos, and now you’re ready for the next stage. For my students this means interacting with a practicing artist to get answers to many types of questions as well as support through the difficult tasks involved in the business of painting.
Summary: This coaching class takes place once a month, with 1-2 other students. You get dedicated time with me, focused on you and your painting needs, in the media you choose. The group discusses the work you’ve done at home during the time between classes. You receive as much or as little support as you specify. The presence of other, congenial students help us maintain the supportive environment that is so important for your development as an artist, and helps you stay accountable to this small community.
Format: Our first session will be spent talking with me about what you want to accomplish as a painter. I use that in the next sessions to craft anything from in-class exercises, meaningful painting assignments that lead you to discover more about yourself as a painter, or questions I will use to get you to expand your repertoire, increase your skills, and realize your untapped potential as a visual artist. All enrolled students have access to the private part of the website where additional resources are posted.
